Tina Arena to perform at Melbourne Asbestos Cancer Fundraiser

The 5th Biaggio Signorelli Foundation Gala Dinner will take place on Saturday 27th July with the attendance of His Excellency the Honourable Alex Chernov AC QC, Governor of Victoria. The foundation is committed to raising awareness, early detection, treatment and cure for the asbestos-related cancer, Mesothelioma. Honouring the late founder of the national award winning Sydney based venue and catering collection, Doltone House, who passed away from the cancer in May 2008.

The credibility of the foundation has been captured by the NSW government in both 2010 and 2011 having received two consecutive government grants totalling $150,000 and in 2012 by the federal government grant of $100,000. The foundation has committed close to $1.5m to key achievements include the funding of three research fellowships. Dr Anthony Linton and Dr Casey Wright housed at the Asbestos Diseases Research Institute in Sydney, as well as Dr Tristan Yan, the Biaggio Signorelli Director of Thoracic Oncology housed at The Baird Institute. The foundation has also contributed towards the development of the National Guidelines for Diagnosis and Treatment of Mesothelioma that will be used nationally.

This year’s inaugural Melbourne event will donate funds raised from the night to support the Mesothelioma research undertaken at the Olivia-Newton John Cancer & Wellness Centre and the Austin Hospital in Heidelberg, Melbourne.

In addition to esteemed company, the evening promises to treat guests to fine food and wine, and a fantastic entertainment line up including Melbourne’s very own international success, Tina Arena. In April 2013, Arena was voted Australia's all-time greatest female singer in an industry poll conducted by the Herald Sun. Vince Sorrenti, one of Australia’s best known comic entertainers will lead proceedings as master of ceremonies. Tickets are available at $250 per person.

The foundation’s reputable board is made up of The Hon. Morris Iemma, former premier of NSW, Sydney radio presenters Jason Morrison of 2UE & Glenn Wheeler of 2GB, Keith Cox (Head Chemotherapy nurse at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital Sydney), along with Doltone Houses’ family Directors, Paul Signorelli, Nina Milazzo and Anna Cesarano.

In 2011 the Biaggio Signorelli Foundation gala event was awarded National Cause Related Event of The Year by Meetings and Events Australia.
