Venko Markovski's birth anniversary marked in Sofia

Participants in the 8th Macedonian Literary Visit to Sofia marked Saturday the centenary of the birth of Venko Markovski by visiting his last resting place at the Sofia City Cemetery.

Venko Markovski is widely recognized as one of the founders of the Macedonian contemporary literature.

Markovski is not only the founder of the Macedonian modern poetry, but he was also a member of the first commission for codification of the Macedonian language and an early member of the Macedonian Writers’ Association, said poet Bratislav Taskovski in his speech commemorating the anniversary.

Venko Markovski – born in 1915 in Skopje and died 1988 in Sofia – is considered both a Macedonian and Bulgarian author. He had written many books of poetry, plays and novels. During his time in Bulgaria until his death, Markovski won many state awards all the while being a member of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences.

Markovski’s birth anniversary wrapped up this year’s Macedonian Literary Visit to Sofia.

The three-day manifestation is organized by Makavej publishing house in cooperation with the Macedonian Cultural and Information Center and is supported by the Ministry of Culture. ba/12:21
