Mike Ilich an American billionaire of Macedonian Origin dies at the age of 87

Born July 20, 1929 in Detroit, Ilitch’s parents were Macedonian immigrants. Mike's parents Sotir and Sultana Taseff Ilich had migrated from Macedonia to the United States in the early twenties.

After returning from his service in the U.S. Marine Corps, Ilitch played baseball in the Detroit Tigers’ minor league system before an injury put an end to his athletic career. In 1959, he and his wife, Marian, founded Little Caesars in suburban Detroit. The company grew into the largest carry-out pizza chain in the world, and the couple were listed by Forbes magazine as having a net worth of $5.4 billion in 2016. - 

 

 

 

Ilitch Holdings, Inc. provides professional services to the companies owned by Mike and/or Marian Ilitch. The Ilitch companies employ 23,000 full-time and part-time colleagues worldwide and posted revenues of $3.4 billion in 2016. The Ilitch companies include: Ilitch Holdings, Little Caesars Pizza, Blue Line Foodservice Distribution, the Detroit Red Wings, the Detroit Tigers, Olympia Entertainment, Olympia Development, Little Caesars Pizza Kits Fundraising Program and Champion Foods. Marian Ilitch owns the MotorCity Casino Hotel.

 

As well as successful in business Mike and Marian Ilich are philanthropists and humanitarians giving generously to the ones in need 

Mike Ilich is survived by his wife and their seven children and 22 grandchildren.
